In the story "Dark They Were, & Golden Eyed" the Bittering family had a cottage on Mars and at night the Martian wind was so bad that it picked up a lot of sand that rattled their windows and they barely got any sleep. Also, Mr. Bittering was very hot in their garden and noticed their crops were changing colors and disfigured, and their cow was green and had three horns.
In they story the bittering family lived on Mars. Sometimes there would be a gust wind not just any wind it was martian wind. And when they got there was a town which is mysterious to me. And there cow had a extra horn which cows are not supposed to have three horns.
When the Bitterings found Mars it looked like earth, with meadows and lakes of grass. This is stated from page 464 when the author said. "...lost in the meadows."and "...among the blowing lakes of grass." Another thing the Bitterings found on Mars when the first cam was the sightings of old martian towns. This can also be found on 464 when the author says "They looked at Martian hills that time had worn over by crushing pressure over the years." That is what the Bitterings found on Mars when they first came in the story Dark They are and Golden Eyed.
In theis strory a family gets stuck on planet Mars. While they are stuck up on the planet Mars they cna't get any sleep. They couldn't do this becuase the wind on Mars is very high and then they had sand in their face. Also when Mr Bittering was in his garden, he was getting very hot and was sweating.
The Bitterings found that Mars has worn hills. I know this because on page 464, Mr. Bittering is looking up into the hills and observing his environment when he notes the worn hills. They also found that Mars is very windy. I know this because, on page 464, Mr. Bittering sees "lakes of grass blowing" which tells me that the wind is strong to make the grass sway like that.

When the Bitterings arrived at Mars the meadows were lying like children’s delicate bones among the blowing lakes of grass. This was because they were looking at the old cities and the lost meadows. There were many things like potted blood geraniums. The geraniums decorated the houses, cities, and other places.
As the bittering family landed on mars they saw red dirt and once and awhile there was some abandoned towns.in the mountains.Eventually they set up in a meadow with a few pebbles.On page 465 laura said that atom bombs hit new york.Another page was 466 and the author describes the rocket is not ready for flight because there was molten girder and unshaken wire.
When the Bitterings got to Mars they saw grass and trees. They got really tan so it was probably hot. They had water and food on Mars. There must have been some sort of atmosphere. Mars had mountains with abandoned buildings on them.
Mars in the story Dark They Were And Golden Eyed was a place with moutains where ancient past lie and mysteries. It had ancient old towns that were made historical when at the end people got to mars to rescue them. they had hills that were named martian hills. Up on the moutain there were streams where water flowed. It also had building material to build rockets with and trasportation of sorts. It had plants and trees in the story.
The plant Mars look like a second earth. How the author decribed the story with how there was water and how the boy got to swim in it. They also decribed like it was sunny and there was plants and trees. There was mountains and old towns.

Mars is very hot and sandy but it does have grass and water. There are lots of farms and plants growing even though it is sandy and hot there there is a good water source and there is good soil for planting crops. There are some villages that are kindof bad looking still but people well martians still live there.
The Bittering family got stranded in Mars and in mars they discovered things that you might see on our planet earth. They saw valleys, hills, mountains, good soil like good enough that you can plant, when they planted there were sandy areas to, green roses, very windy, and robotic equipment that watches what comes in and out of Mars.
